The New Year is here and it’s time to think of resolutions and set goals. Better still, it’s time for Weaselolutions! Ok, I know that sounds silly, but here’s how it works:

Weasel + Resolutions – Motivation in few weeks = Weaseloutions!

Here are some of the things I plan to work on:

• Draw more than last year
• Do more comics than last year
• Update the site more than last year
• Get the first Think Weasel! collection printed at Ka-Blam!
• Create more merchandise
• Do as many conventions as we can afford

That should be enough to keep us busy, any suggestions as to what we can add to the list?

Many people publishing comics on the web (like us) use a combination of the WordPress platform and the ComicPress theme. It’s a great combination that is both powerful and (fairly) simple. The problem is that to make some of the more involved changes, you have to dig into the more geeky parts of this software. Which, if you make a big enough mistake, can potentially blow up your website.

That’s one of the main reasons why this site has stayed with the same look for quite a while now. I don’t have time to rebuild things if it goes blooey. After all, I need to spend that time making comics!

Then I ran across a simple way to run a test version of the site. A way that I can do whatever the heck I want to it and you wonderful readers won’t be effected. These German software nerds figured out how to run all the server stuff that operates my site without having to go through a complicated setups (which you usually do, I looked into this idea before). It’s called MAMP and you can have a copy of your site up and running in no time. Better still, it’s portable! Just take the application folder and copy it over to another Mac and it ready to go.

Even if you just do a regular WordPress site or some other kind of server-side application stuff, you may want to try it out. Because if it works for you, the website you save may be your own!

You may not get the Sunday paper, but maybe you’re heard of this strip. The creator has taken over his site from the syndicate and he’s running a Wordpress/Comicpress site on his own! Go read it and give him some support, you might like it.
